Dads only Donate 1 What you put on Posted by danieljkoren on October 25, 2020 in Devotional | ∞ In business, I went from struggling to get people to pay the first check of their contract to suddenly getting the first 5-figure payment weeks before the work started. I paused to think about what changed and the only factor I found different was my shirt. I had begun wearing a white shirt when signing contracts and people began paying way in advance. I’m not sure if a white shirt works for everyone, but it is no surprise that a person should dress for success. Did you know that what you wear in your spirit is even more important than what you put on your body? (But please keep your clothes on.) You don’t need just spiritual clothing, but body armor. To live in a sin-darkened world, we must put on the armor of light (Romans 13:12). Just as you put on your clothes in the morning, you must also select the spiritual outfit you will wear for the day. Will you wear the holiness of God or will you put on greed, envy, or rudeness? Yes, we must “put on” our King Jesus. We are not spiritual tramps, laughing at every dirty joke or getting into every gripe-about-the-boss session at the workplace. We have a better wardrobe. Just as my clothing styles are my choice, so is my invisible identity each day. I could put on my old self—the frustrated, grumpy, unhappy self. But that style is so dated I wouldn’t even donate it to Goodwill. Shortly after marrying my wife, I discovered clothes missing from my closet and dresser. I had no idea how bad I looked in a peach-colored shirt or in a burgundy shirt. One of those shirts I’d had since elementary school it seemed, but she knew how awful it looked on me. I’ve since learned a few of the colors that complement my skin color (and white doesn’t work for everyone). Spiritual giants teach us to suit up with honesty, right-living, gospel-sharing, faith, humility, hope, joy, knowledge of God’s Word, holiness, compassion, kindness, meekness, and patience. (See Ephesians 6:11-16; I Thessalonians 5:8; I Peter 5:5). We must put on purity and sincerity before going out into a jangled and jaded world. Paul told mature believers that “you… have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its Creator.” (Colossians 3:10). My changing room is my prayer time. Reading and studying the Scriptures begins to tailor me into the image of Christ. I robe myself in Jesus in deep prayer. It’s not just a superficial change, but a deep transformation. Pray until you are living the second commandment: “Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” (Colossians 3:14). « Older posts Free books much?
